Why is there a gender double standard?

Because most "boys" clothes in this day and age are pretty androgynous .. they are really "unisex" clothes, i can't think of many items that would be exclusively male .. if we were in the 1920's where men wore suits and tophats and walked with canes than maybe woman would have an easier time crossdressing ..
