Conservatives, what do you think of activist judges passing rulings that go against the majority opinion?

For example, the Supreme Court voting in 1967 to make interracial marriage legal, even though many states had voted, with a majority of their citizens, that it should be illegal in their state. Was that incorrect? Should states be allowed to make interracial marriage illegal?
