Men are complicated what's new?

So I've been friends with this guy for about 4 years now and I like him a lot. Every once in awhile he'll say something that pretty much gives away that he likes me. Like a few weeks ago we were talking on facebook and I was complaining that guys never like me. He says something like "Oh I bet plenty of guys have liked you they were just too scared to tell you." Then I say "I doubt it" and he says "I don't think you give yourself enough credit." Obvious right? But here's the problem: I always initiate conversation and I ask him to hang out all the time but he's always busy or makes up stupid excuses. What's wrong with this guy is he a pansy and is afraid to be alone with me or what? Thanks in advance.
